Levi’s Blank Tabs

A common concern I see among people who are newer to buying and selling Levi’s is, “What is up with the blank tab”? They worry that the pair might be fake, or that it could be worth more because they believe it is an error.
It’s not an error. Approximately 10% of Levi’s “Tabs” are blank with just the (R). Why? Because they own the rights to the “Levi’s” tab AND the actual tab itself. This prevents competitors from imitating the brand. They print enough to maintain the trademark because if the trademark is unused, it can be taken (Levi’s Blank Tab, https://levihelp.levi.com/hc/en-gb/articles/22356609468945-Levi-s-Blank-Tab, 2025).
I have not seen a blank tag increase the value of a pair of jeans, so unfortunately your pair of jeans isn’t worth more because of the lack of “Levi’s” on the tab. Personally though, I think the blank tabs are pretty cool. You only have something 10% of Levi’s wearers have!
