ILGWU Union Labels to date Vintage Clothing

Finding an ILGWU (International Ladies Garment Workers Union) union label on an article of clothing is one of the easiest and quickest ways to confirm that garment is vintage. Below are examples of the tags to look for, and how to date them. Look behind the care tags, or along the side seams of a garment when looking for union tags. 

1955-1963

June 28th 1963 - April 21st 1964

No “R” Mark as trademark hadn’t been approved yet 


1964 - 1973


1974-1995


“UNITE!” 1995-2005
